My Men of the Shovel...for now.

Who needs a snowblower when you have these strong muscles!!
Ethan usually last all of 10 minutes helping Corey shovel the walks, but today Corey somehow got him to stay out the whole time and help.
Ethan was so proud that he helped clear the walks. Corey was exhausted and sore, but he wears the Man Badge proud. I don't know how much longer he will be a Man of the Shovel...he is all for the snowblower thing.

Really funny, Izzy!

Izzy found a marker in the backseat of the car {don't ask me how it got there} and decided to decorate her pretty face. I couldn't be mad because she wouldn't stop laughing. Oh, the joys of being 2! So we all laughed and she went with me to run my errands and such with this adorable face.

Note to Self...

...don't park the highchair next to your purse next time.

"I couldn't ask for a better Mom..."

Ethan and I attended sacrament without the girls or our Daddy today and it was a great experience! I was able to put my arm around him the whole time and hug him. He loved it. When we left he said, "Mom?" I knelt beside him and he said, "I couldn't ask for a better mom because you are always doing nice things for me." I hugged him so tight and long and got a little emotional. I said, "Thank you so much" and kissed his forehead (the only place I am allowed to kiss my big boy). Then we walked to the car and continued our great day at home.
Ethan is such a sensitive boy and I love it! His emotions are always right at the surface which means he can get quite angry and frustrated when things don't go just right, but it also means he feels a great capacity to love. Ethan has always shown great empathy. I love my tender hearted son.
He made my whole year with that sweet, tender comment he made while walking to the car hand in hand with his ol' mom.

Pierced Ears for Izzy

I didn't intend to pierce Izzy's ears on my recent trip to the mall, but when she saw the jewelry boutique she kept saying "i ant (want) eawwings (earrings)." She kept saying it for the whole hour and a half I walked the mall with her. So finally I stopped in front of the boutique not knowing if I should just do it or wait. I told her over and over that it would hurt. She kept saying she wanted earrings like mommy. Finally I just did it. Izzy picked out these cute little princess crowns. Yes, she cried a bit, but was quickly showing anyone who would look how cute her princess earrings were. She would make anyone who looked at her ear also look at the other one.
We had a ward gathering that night and she again showed everyone!! I love this photo because it shows how excited and proud she is of her princess earrings.
Now if she would just pee in the potty!

Makin' Cookies

Ethan is off-track from his year-round school right now so we have to find things to do to pass the day a bit easier. We made cookies!! I am not a chef, cook, baker or anything of the sort. This woman's place is definitely not in the kitchen, but today we attempted and succeeded at making some yummer chocolate chip cookies.

Look at the effort Ethan is putting into stirring in the chocolate chips.
I am sure he got quite a workout.

This is the extent of Izzy's contribution. :)

Sleeping Beauties

I go hang out with Kari once a week at my mom's house in Brigham and this is the sight I see in my rear view mirror on the way home. The girls are so tired they are usually asleep before we hit the freeway. I love how their heads tilt the same way when they sleep. It makes for a nice drive home for me without having to meet the demands of the little ones. I turn up the radio and sing a long. Nope...the girls don't wake up.

Ellie's First Birthday

Not quite sure what's going on.

Loving her pink cake.

Cleaning up in the Laundry Room sink

First birthdays are always fun. Ellie's first birthday was a blast. I love when my family gets together and when my kids are happy, so this birthday party was a great event. Ellie got a lot of fun toys (which Izzy thinks are hers). Ellie was the star of the show and didn't quite know what to do.
She is not quite the spit-fire Izzy was at one, but she gets mad when she doesn't get her way. Ellie is very observant of her siblings and wants to do what they do. She is pretty little for her age; she weighs 19 lbs and is in the 20th percentile. Ellie loves to walk and has a little waddle about her. She is finally getting some hair, not much though. We call her Ellie Bean, Peaches, and Elle. She is a great addition to our family and it's a joy to watch her grow.

Grandpa's Gyrocopter!!

Curt has been working on this little Gyrocopter for so long that when he invited us all to see it fly, we ALL went. We had the 13 little ones sitting on a blanket on the ground and the adults got some camp chairs and enjoyed the show. Michael and Corey were briefed on an "In case of Emergency" run down and then Curt was off...without any problems. It was wonderful to see. He was so excited! Boys love their toys...especially ones they have built with their own hands.
Anxiously waiting for the show.

Off he goes

Look at him go!

Gotta love the beautiful Utah mountains...the perfect backdrop.

Izzy and McKayla are thrilled to see it fly!

Grandpa Curt lands safely...and with a HUGE smile!

Ellie Rae

Ellie will be 10 months old on July 14th. She is so much fun. Her personality has really begun to emerge lately. Ellie can stand on her own, feed herself (finger foods) and say "da-da."

Balloons on the Ceiling

I brought home a dozen helium filled balloons from a Relief Society Enrichment Night and Ethan thought it would be fun to rip all the ribbon off. SO, I had a dozen helium filled balloons on the ceiling with no way to grab them down. That is until Ethan and I decided to be inventive! We taped a plastic golf club to the broom and then taped a sharp pin from my sewing stuff to the end. Ethan thought it was hysterical to pop the balloons and watch them fly all over the front room.
I have to say this was a great idea!

In Memory of Shirley

Memorial Day has never been about loved ones who have passed away for me. Mainly because I have never lost anyone close to me. You see, I am fortunate enough to have even my grandparents alive and well. I realized a couple of months ago that this is not the case for my children. Corey lost his grandmother, Shirley, when he was serving an LDS mission. She died of cancer. When Ethan was just a baby my Mother-in-Law gave him a little teddy bear angel bearing the name "Grandma Shirley." I have always kept it with Ethan's stuffed animals and he has always known it was special. A couple of months ago I went in the help Ethan clean his room. When I walked in he was sitting on the floor holding the angel teddy bear and reading the name on it. He said, "Mom, I don't even know Grandma Shirley." And very softly he started to cry. I was so taken back. Ethan is a tender-hearted boy with emotions very close to the surface, but somehow this reaction to his teddy bear shocked me. I hugged him and told him that I never knew her either. I told him that his daddy would be happy to tell him all about her. So, he put the bear on his bed instead of the normal stuffed animal box so he would "remember to ask Dad about her."
I think he forgot about it the rest of the day, but when we knelt down to pray he began to cry again. He told his Dad the samething he told me about not knowing "Grandma Shirley." Corey and he hugged and cried a bit before Corey began to tell him about his grandma. I stayed there on my knees watching this interaction and I began to miss a woman I had never known. From what I hear about her she was amazing! I would have loved to have known such a woman.
Corey and I have not been to Shirley's grave our entire married life...at least not together. I am not sure of the times he has gone without me. But we knew we needed to go this memorial day...for Ethan's sake. He is filled with so many questions about death that it is hard to answer them all. We decided to take him to see where Shirley is buried. It was a great experience for Ethan.

Izzy (2), Ethan (6), and Ellie (8 mos) in front of the tombstone.
Izzy looking at the flowers.Ethan drew a picture for her. We tied a ribbon around it and he put some plastic carnations in it.
Getting a little emotional.
While we were at the cemetary Corey's grandpa said, "Ya know, she's just not here." He smiled a knowing smile. I thought about the peace knowing the gosepl brings to those who have lost loved ones. That statement would sound so lonely to anyone else, but here was a widower who said it with a smile. Although I am sure he would much rather have her with him, those words expressed a silent gratitude for a loving Father and his perfect plan. I would think that such knowledge is what will sustain me when I am faced with such a challenge.

"My Husband Rocks" Friday

Opposites Attract! At least that's what "they" say. I don't know who "they" are, but "they" got it right in mine and Corey's case. Seriously, we could not be more different. However, we are alike where it matters.
My husband rocks because he embraces our differences and does not try to change who I am. I know I can drive him absolutely crazy sometimes, but he never loses his temper with me. He is definitely the patient one and since we are extremely opposite you can guess how I am in the patience department. In fact, instead of losing his patience and getting upset, he seems to really try to understand my thought process (which is an exercise in futility).

SO...Thanks Babe for letting me be me and loving me anyway.

Family Home Evening: Aquatic Center

I think this is the only smile we got from Izzy. She was terrified of the water!! It was actually quite comical. Look at Ellie just relaxing in the floaty. Oh to be a baby!
Ethan is a water bug and always has been.
He is a pleasure to swim with because he absolutely loves it.
Ellie got a bit too relaxed. I think it's time to go home.

My Hubby

MY HUSBAND IS AMAZING!!

Corey is a remarkable business man. I think he has got to be one of the most driven people I know. He works so hard and lights up when he sees success. Corey's always lived by the mantra "It's okay to fail." That is the precise reason he is such a risk taker. He rarely voices his discouragement or setbacks, but I know they come. Corey is a very positive person and always willing to serve. He loves the Savior and the gospel. I have never seen anyone retain information so well. Corey has a fault in that brain that somehow holds everything he learns, as well as all the lyrics from every 80's song ever written. He is amazing at trivia, especially pop culture trivia.
Corey is a wonderful father. I can not think of anything that means more to him that his children (okay, maybe his wife;)). He plays with his kids whenever he gets a free moment. He is his son's hero and his daughters' shining Knight. They adore him almost as much as he adores them. He prays for them, laughs with them and secretly hurts when they are hurting. I think he will make a great father of teenagers, too. Let's hope at least one of us will handle those years well.
Corey is my perfect match. Neither Corey nor I believe in a "soul mate," but if I did he would be mine. I am sure no other man can bring me such happiness. I smile when I think of his laugh and the silly things we've done together. He is so loving and involved. Although he could seriously care less about my various crafts and creations, he is the first with a compliment. He cares about my happiness and wants me to succeed in every and any endeavor. Corey is 100% understanding of me having to have a night out. I could have three in one week and he would be fine with that. He may not understand why I have to go out; the fact that it's important to me is reason enough. I love him!

And those are just a few reason why my husband is amazing!!

Thoughts on Mother's Day

Can I just say what a wonderful day I think Mother's Day is? I really enjoyed reflecting on my calling as a mother. I think it is a wonderful thing that Heavenly Father made such a role as MOTHER for human-kind. Not just because that is the vessel by which we are born, but because of how unique a mother's role is over every other person in our lives. (I hope I am making sense.)
I have teachers, friends, and leaders who have touched my life in remarkable and wonderful ways, but there is not a soul on this Earth who has influenced me and guided me and loved me like my mother. For that (and so much more) I am incredibly grateful! Thanks, Mom!

"My Husband Rocks" Friday!

My husband rocks because one of his favorite movies is CASABLANCA. I love that he watches it with me. We snuggle on the couch and talk about the time when movies used to be truly great!

See why other hubby's rock at Love Actually...and join in the fun.

Funny Funny Kids

Baylee was quizzing Ethan about math as they colored at the bar. She was asking things like what's 10+3+2? I would help him with his answers and Baylee would say, "You are so smart Ethan." Then Baylee said, "Becky you are smarter than my mom." I grinned and said, "Oh, I don't think so." Ethan whispered, "Sometimes mom's don't answer correctly (yes, he used that word) so you will think your smart." :)

Easter Egg Hunt at Grandma Patti's

Every year my mom does an Easter Egg Hunt in her backyard. The kids just adore it! They run around looking for all the candy with their name on it. Mom always goes all out getting the kids a little of everything, but I say it's her right as a
Grandmother.

Ethan just loves being at grandma's with all his cousins. You add candy and that's like his heaven. It was a great morning.

Ethan and Izzy had the funnest time! I wasn't sure Izzy would be able to go because she was so sick the day before. Luckily she was alright when we woke up...still has an icky cough though.
That didn't stop her from saying, "Treat! Treat!" every time she found candy. She had a lot of fun!

Thanks mom for being such a fabulous grandma...and mom!

Imagination Abounds

This is LDS General Conference according to a six year old boy with a bucket full of Legos. Complete with the Prophet holding a microphone, the jumbo screen behind him, and the pulpit. Darling huh? He is so imaginative and clever.
Ethan is 6 1/2 now. He wants to be a scientist when he grows up. He wants to invent all the creations he see on Jimmy Neutron and Star Wars. Ethan is really into light sabers and reading (or being read to). We really like Junie B Jones stories and Skippy John Jones (both wonderful books). He is advancing really well in school. His tests show him reading on a 2nd grade level. I believe he is well on his way to becoming a scientist. :)

Emmalee & Elizabeth

Emmalee (in the pink) and Elizabeth (in the white t-shirt) are 6 weeks apart. Emmalee is my sisters youngest and Elizabeth is my youngest. Expecting these two was the first (and only) time Kari and I were pregnant together. Hard to believe considering we have 7 kids between us.

Growing Everyday

Elizabeth is almost 6 months old and is discovering something new everyday. With camera in hand, I try to capture those moments, but sometimes I am not so lucky. Today I was! Today she saw her reflection in this little floor gym mirror and laughed at how cute the baby is looking back at her.
She loves to lay in her crib and "talk" to the walls, the bars, the mobile or whatever she is looking at at the time. This time I walked in the nursery and she was talking to her foot before shoving it in her mouth. Hopefully she was warning it. :)
